Engagement sessions are a chance to tell your story

These sessions can be so much more than a way to get the perfect save-the-date photo. They're an opportunity to tell your story by incorporating the things you love, whether that's your favorite landscape, your hobbies, or even your four-legged family members. I love weaving those personal details into every session, which is exactly why Megan and Nick's engagement photos in Western Massachusetts were such a joy to photograph.

We explored Conway, Massachusetts, a place that's especially meaningful to them, and made sure to highlight one of their favorite shared hobbies: mountain biking. One of the first things they asked me was, "Can we bring the bikes?" As an avid cyclist myself, my answer was an enthusiastic yes.

Of course, their two sweet pups had to join the adventure too. Megan even dressed them in coordinating bandanas and leashes, adding an extra thoughtful touch. While the dogs occasionally had ideas of their own, they also gave us some of the most genuine moments from the evening.

Bring plenty of treats. A few well-timed rewards can go a long way in keeping your pup engaged and happy throughout the session.

Embrace the accessories. A fun bandana, a stylish collar, or a coordinating leash can elevate your photos and tie everything together.

Plan for your dog to join only part of the session. That way, you'll have beautiful photos with your furry friend, plus plenty of time for portraits of just the two of you.

Expect the unexpected. Some dogs are born to pose, while others are more interested in exploring every new scent. Either way, those unscripted moments often become the most memorable photos.

Consider an engagement session if you want photos with your pet. Engagement sessions are often a much more relaxed opportunity to include your dog than your wedding day, where timelines, guests, and the excitement can make it harder for pets to participate.
