Autumn in New England is pure magic
It’s hard to beat the dazzling display of colors that arrives across the Northeast from October through November. With a palette of golds, rusts, and reds to work with, the creative possibilities for fall photoshoots feel endless, and I always look forward to this time of year.
When Liz and Shane reached out to plan their elopement session in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, during peak fall foliage, I knew we were going to capture something special.
One of their biggest goals for the session was to spend time outdoors. As avid cyclists, they wanted their photos to reflect their passion for the outdoors, and they were eager to find a spot with a beautiful view.
We spent the evening hiking through the beautiful High Ledges Wildlife Sanctuary, taking in the scenery and exploring the trails. We also lucked out with a stunning sunset that made the perfect backdrop for their portraits.
The beauty of an intimate elopement session is having the space to slow down, immerse yourself in the outdoors, and capture the moments you've always dreamed of.

Dreaming of a New England Fall Foliage Elopement? Here Are a Few Tips!
Check past foliage reports. Fall color typically peaks at different times across New England, depending on the location and weather. Look at past foliage reports to get a general idea of when to plan your session, especially if you're traveling to a specific area.
Keep an eye on the current foliage forecast. Foliage trackers typically begin publishing predictions in late summer. ExploreFall is a great resource for tracking changing colors and planning around peak foliage.
Plan for golden hour. Sunset light is hard to beat against autumn's vibrant colors. The warm, golden tones make the foliage glow, creating dreamy portrait conditions. If your schedule allows, plan your session around sunrise or sunset for the most beautiful light.
